The Battle of Fort Slongo took place during October of 1781 between British troops and American Revolutionary forces. In the early morning of October 3rd, American forces assaulted the fort and wrestled it from British control in a matter of minutes. The American troops only suffered one injury; Sergeant Elijah Churchill was wounded, but would later receive the Badge of Military Merit (now known as the Purple Heart).
A marker on Route 25A near where the fort once stood now indicates where the battle took place. Nearby residents have reported hearing gunshots or the sounds of an active battle in the early morning hours, but there are never any people to be seen in the area.

Sunday 10/27/2019 @ approx 3:45 pm, I had what is called a Claircognizant Experience. My husband & I were driving east on Rt 25A in the East Northport area. Near where the IGA Market is located off this road, I got extremely uncomfortable and anxious. I told my husband, “I could never live in the area as I was getting such bad vibes just driving through it. Feelings that massive violence took place there. An image of a Redcoat British soldier with a musket, struggling with an American soldier, flashed through my mind. Maybe it was something to do with the Revolutionary War.” Lo and behold as I finished saying that, we passed a historical marker sign about the Battle of Fort Slonga that had taken place right there. ??
I’m not familiar with the area and knew nothing about the Battle of Fort Slongo prior to this experience. We’re retired and were in the area for a social event. We were returning home when this experience occurred.
