Maine Maid Inn
Jericho, NY 11753
The Maine Maid Inn dates back to the end of the 18th century and was once a key site in the Underground Railroad. During the 1950’s it was converted to an inn and eatery popular for banquets and large gatherings; it remained as such until closing in 2009. Footsteps, banging sounds, and strange voices have been heard in the inn, and some visitors have even reported seeing apparitions inside and around the inn.

It is. I worked there as a waiter. I had an experience in the Captain's Room that will stay with me forever.
I was setting up for a meeting on an evening that happened to be very quiet. It is upstairs and there were no other parties at the time. I had finished with some time to spare, so I was taking a closer look at the painting of Valentine over the fireplace. I began to get these "thoughts" but as if I was communicating with something. I then began to get a little angry, maybe even aggressive as this went on for a moment. I remember thinking, "OK. Prove this is real!" The lights in the room went out as I stand in darkness and utter terror... to the point I was shaking ans tasted the metallic taste of adrenaline washing through my body.
And, within seconds the lights came on. I looked around to see if anyone else was around or some sign that there was a blackout. Nothing. I mad my way down to the kitchen and the chef saw me wandering. He said, "Are you OK?" I must have looked like I saw a ghost. I asked if there was a power outage and he shook his head no.
I shared my story with others at the time. Everyone there had a story to tell.

I literally work in an office right behind the Maine Maid Inn, and I believe it's haunted. Every time I walk outside our office door, I hear a cat like it's crying for help, but when I go to look just around the wall where I hear this cat, there's nothing. Twice this has happened to me. The Inn is currently undergoing renovations.
