Edgewood State Hospital served as a psychiatric center for both civilians and a traumatized World War II soldiers. The buildings are now mostly demolished, but many believe the spirits of workers and patients past still haunt the grounds of what is now the Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve.

Before all of the buildings had been demolished, a 19-year-old boy was drinking and exploring the still-standing power plant. He fell down a 50-foot shaft and died.

Visitors have reported hearing screams in the forest when no one was around, as well as misty figures that appear and quickly vanish. Some even say that when you stand in the spot that once bore Building 102, the campus’ tallest construction, you can feel a cold wind blow right through you.
