Built in the early 1920s, the Normandie Inn served initially as a home for Czech Royalty, later as a hotel, as a speakeasy during Prohibition, and as a restaurant before its eventual closure. Supposedly a young girl, named either Sarah or Maria, was strangled to death in the second floor’s back bedroom while the building was still operating as a speakeasy. Hotel guests would later report incidents in which a knock would come from their door late at night, but when they went to open it no one was there. A cold chill is often felt when the door is opened.

Guests have also reported feeling cold spots in the inn, hearing strange whispering sounds when they were alone, and seeing shadow people lurking about the property. Workers reported the appearance of footprints in the carpet where no one has stood, and seeing apparitions in the kitchen.

Tore down today very sad

The building was demolished today as we speak - it was a landmark and historic and very sad to see that we do not value these historic buildings. Yep Jersey Mikes is coming. Very sad

prior to 1920

It was a cigar factory that burnt down prior to 1920, so yes it was something beforehand. I don't think much of the factory survived. There is definitely action going on in there to this day, as is with most speak easys. I can't believe JERSEY MIKE'S is moving in. Iam so disappointed. They already demolished my favorite part of the building.

Creepy painting somehow connected to the inn?

My grandma has had this painting of a woman since my mom was a child. One day my mom was watching a tv special on hauntings, and they were discussing the inn... then proceeded to show an image of the supposed spirit. It was the same portrait my grandmother has hanging in the living room. What’s odd is, the clothing looks to be from prior to the 1920’s(when the inn is said to have been built). It looks closer to 1900s or late 1800s. Does anyone know if there was another structure there prior to the inn?
