Reid’s Ice Cream Factory
Blue Point, NY 11715
Reid’s Ice Cream Factory produced frozen treats for Long Islander’s until its closure during the 1920s. The site remained abandoned until its demolition in 2003, and during that span it was the site of two alleged deaths as well as subsequent hauntings. According to one story a young boy used to play in the abandoned factory in the 1970s; one day the boy climbed too high up some equipment and lost his footing, plummeting to his death. People have claimed to still hear the boy playing on the property, and a demolition team is said to have walked off the job after doors would regularly open, close, and lock themselves.
Another story, which takes place during the 1950s, revolves around a young woman named Linda who met up with a suitor in the abandoned factory, then a popular spot for couples seeking privacy. Accounts diverge at this point, with one version claiming the woman turned down her suitor’s advances and was murdered as he set upon her in a fury. The other version claims that the new couple was being watched by a man with ill intent who murdered the suitor and then killed Linda. People passing the property have seen the specter of a woman and heard her screaming and crying.
