Description / Notes:
Things that go bump in the night scare you? Maybe a chop, chop, chopping sound, or a window opening in the shadow of moonlight. That’s just the beginning, my friends. If you dare to come, Gateway’s Estate, with Civil War era buildings, provides the backdrop for a walk thru trip that begins in a dilapidated barn. As the rafters loom with maybe a bat or two or three…… the tale is told of a horrifying murderer and victim who still haunt the premises. When and if you are free to leave, you may agree that spirits never die. It may not be your choice to stay or run screaming into the night, traveling with trepidation, heart beating fast, out into the eerie wooded paths and in thru a nightmare maze of shocking and bizarre happenings destined to chill you to the very bone. Creatures strange and beautiful will beckon you on, as things may not be quite as they seem, journeying on to the depths of hell and thru the electrifying chambers within. Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse of Horrors is not suitable for young children under the age of 13.

Terrific place to visit for the Halloween Spirit

As an adult, the haunted houses aimed towards children aren't too appealing to me. But, on the other hand, Gateway's House of Horrors is oriented much more towards adults. I didn't have to wait long to get in, wet in small group which added to the creepiness, and had a terrific time. I'm impressed, and would suggest this to anyone who enjoys the Halloween spirit. And finally, it's nice to know that by going, it's helping support the theatre, which I think is wonderful. Oh, and the actors are great- convincingly spooky!
Unique and Scary- Go!

like the other posters I just read, i thought the whole thing was really done well. great theme. the actors are better than usual, they have scares everywhere and unique set ups, two real theaters, two mazes, one in this wooded location. the bus was freaky. the girls were too scared to finish. they grabbed onto us and looked down near the end to get thru it. our trip through was somewhere between 15-20 minutes. there was a very short wait, but since it's new, that may change once word gets out. plenty of parking, definitely worth the trip, and a great price. we may go again halloween weekend.
Spooktacular!

The whole experience was chilling and beyond scary. I'm a haunted house fanatic and I must admit this place most definitely ruffled my feathers. The actors are convincing and play their roles very well! I recommend trying this place out.

The Gateway Playhouse put on an exceptional show. We went on tuesday 10/2709 and there was no line at all. We've been to several other haunts on the Island and this is one of the best. The actors are very very good, the sets are spectacular, the scare factor is outstanding (I jumped several times throughout the haunt and I usually do not get surprised enough to jump often). Great atmosphere, spooky history, different than all of the other haunts I've been to. Very highly recommend, great time, great price ($15.00, $20.00 for fast pass) great haunt.
THE BEST

This is the best haunted house on Long Island, handsdown. I went to Darkside, Bayville, and even Schmidts farm... but this clearly blows them away. I brought several people to the gateway last night during a horrible rain storm. I had read the reviews, and believe me, it was worth the rain, and the 30 minute wait (which I though was no problem, even the waiting area looks cool and is inside), and way worth the 15 bucks. It was just incredible... walked outside and in.... the school bus is freaky, and once inside I felt like it would never end- and the actors are great. BRAVO to the creators of this haunted house... I am going to try and come back this week... I hope the line is out the door... they deserve it. WORTH GOING TWICE!

New Favorite!

I go to haunted houses every year with my step dad, and I think this is my favorite one so far! I had never been to this one before but it was defiantly worth it. All the haunted house recently have been all the same robotic stuff which gateway had none of.

All the actors were truly creepy and really good. It was outside and inside with so many cool hallways and passage ways. Probably not like anything you've ever been to. Scary on both levels, for people who like the BOO factor or the truly creepy stuff. One girl who was in our group was crying in the corner! will DEFF go again, and bring all my friends.
Truly Unique

I went to the Opening Night of the Haunted Playhouse and had a fantastic time. The theater has done something different than any other Haunted Attraction I have been to. There are NO cheesey animatronics and they do not rely on over doing special effects. The setting itself is eerie and the actors are outstanding. I don't want to give too much away but the school bus and chainsaw guy alone make it worth your time and price of admission.

Phenomenal. It was sooooo SCARYYyyy. I went with my boyfriend and I was screaming the wholee time.. even my boyfriend was scared!
He takes me to all the haunted houses and it was soo cool. It had a story line, and it was like a haunted house and it was so cool. The actors in it were SO GOOD. at the other places the people are usually so over the top and fake but I was actually afraid of them.
It was so cool I ahd no idea where i was going.. it just kept going in these cool pathways..up and down stairs.. and outside..
Im going again this weekend with my girlfriends and i think a bunch of my friends are going again for halloween.

All I can say is WOW!!! I've been to many halloween events and this is far the best. I loved the whole theatrical spin to it. I frequent the plays and have been for years, it was great to see a new addition to the old place.
i really wanted to go through again!!! Scary, spooky, haunted, me personally I'm not a BIG fan of bodybags, but hey, they added to the aura...lol.
You will not be disappointed. I would recommend the fast pass, we waited an hour on the line. Next year fast pass all the way!!!!
Great job Gateway Staff!!!
